There have been attempts at NYC, Texas, Moscow, France, UK, and the Middle East. The closest is Tel Aviv and its suburbs, but the Bay Area and especially San Francisco is unique and special.

Bay Area is far and away the place where tech companies grow and succeed. Here's the data: pic.twitter.com/FzSGS2fH0S

That’s why I just moved to the Bay Area. And there’s something different about the atmosphere, which I think you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

I love the Bay Area spirit, but this feels a bit like saying Paris is the only place that makes great art.

Shenzhen grew from 30,000 to 13 million people in 40 years building incredible tech. Tel Aviv has more startups per capita than anywhere. Stockholm gave us Spotify, Skype,…
** except for mainland China — and now accelerating because we’re destroying our own R&D seed corn in America.

Not true. Austin is doing pretty great breeding field led by Tesla autonomy.

What do you think stands in the way of the Greater Boston Area? Surely there isn’t a shortage of talent or capital.
— Emir C. Roach, MD (@drecroach) May 26, 2025
Housing too expensive. Highways are jammed. Young professionals have no hope to afford a house within half hour commute to work. A few wildly successful startups benefit <1000 people. High paying FANG jobs maybe another 10000 in total. Rest suffer from long commute and anxiety
