Russia announces nuclear deployment planning with top ally
Trump Issues Stark Warning to Russia Ahead of Putin Summit Trump said "there will be very severe consequences" and that "he doesn't have to" specify what, should Russia not move toward a cease-fire............ Trump was then asked if he believes he can "convince" Putin to "stop targeting civilians in Ukraine," to which he replied: "I've had a lot of good conversations with him [Putin], but then I go home and see that a rocket hit a nursing home [or an apartment building] and people are laying dead in the street, so I guess the answer to that is 'no.'" ........ Trump's remarks came shortly after he shared an “exceptionally constructive and good conversation” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and key European leaders on Wednesday, according to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. ......... Zelensky, meanwhile, warned Trump that Putin is “bluffing” about being open to a cease-fire and lasting peace. .......... French President Emmanuel Macron divulged that while the group discussed a potential exchange of land, “as of today, there are no serious territorial exchange plans on the table.” Zelensky and Merz both reiterated the need for a cease-fire and strong Ukrainian security guarantees before any negotiations take place. ........... After the conversation, Zelensky said that Trump struck down the idea that Russia could veto Ukraine’s NATO membership aspirations and reiterated calls for possible economic penalties on Russia—which the U.S. President has repeatedly promised to enact—should a cease-fire deal not be reached. ......... Trump previously stated that a lasting cease-fire in the Russia-Ukraine war, which was triggered when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, could only come through the exchange of territories “for the betterment of both.” Zelensky, backed by his European allies, staunchly denounced that idea, stating that Ukraine will not “gift their land to the occupier.” ......... “The path to peace in Ukraine cannot be decided without Ukraine,” the leaders of France, Italy, the U.K., Germany, Poland, and Finland said in a statement on Saturday. “We remain committed to the principle that international borders must not be changed by force.” ........... Russian troops advanced deeper into Ukraine on Tuesday, in what some have viewed as a bid to pressure Kyiv into considering Putin’s demands for more territory. “We see that the Russian army is not preparing to end the war. On the contrary, they are making movements that indicate preparations for new offensive operations,” Zelensky said. ........... “Very unfair media is at work on my meeting with Putin. Constantly quoting fired losers and really dumb people,” Trump said via Truth Social, before referencing recent comments made by his former national security adviser John Bolton, who asserted that “Putin has already won,” in an interview with The Atlantic.

"The ball in putin's court." Geezus Christ. Who needs Nato? You can happily leave the ball in putin's court permanently now. Well done! Happy days.

If you had any balls this war would be over. Ukraine is sacrificing its best so we can all live fat and happy. It makes me sick. We need more decisive actions against russia. Enough is enough.

"The ball is now in Putin's court"? Really? So he has all the cards? Do you even think before writing such bullshit? Can NATO be more fragile than under your "leadership"? Geez, you're licking Trump's boots. What a shame, especially after the 5% commitment of EU members, more…

2, provide long range cruise missiles.

My personal opinion: Trump will not remember on Friday what he said today and the weeks before, about pressure on Putin, sanctions, and support for Ukraine. I do not believe or trust Trump.

Trump Issues Stark Warning to Russia Ahead of Putin Summit
Bessent Warns Europe It’s ‘Put Up or Shut Up’ Time on Russia Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged European nations to be prepared to get on board with higher tariffs on China and other nations that buy Russian energy, lamenting that he got a cool response when he floated the idea at a Group of Seven meeting earlier this year. .......... Bessent said sanctions on Russia “can go up” or “can be loosened” depending on the outcome of a meeting set for Friday between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin. But the Europeans need to back the idea of harsher measures in any case. ........ “It’s put up or shut up time,” Bessent said. “We put secondary tariffs on the Indians for buying Russian oil. And I could see if things don’t go well, then sanctions or secondary tariffs could go up.” ......... The US, along with European nations, Japan and other countries have piled sanctions on Russia since the start of that country’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The European Union adopted its 18th package of sanctions on Russia in July, including on Russian energy. .......... Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on goods from India — set to take effect later this month — over the country’s purchases of Russian energy, in addition to a 25% base tariff. ..........
At a recent G-7 meeting in Canada, Bessent said he “looked at all the leaders around the table, and I said, is everyone at this table willing to put a 200% secondary tariff on China? And you know what? Everybody wanted to see what kind of shoes they were wearing.”
........ Bessent said that Trump “will make it clear to President Putin that all options are on the table.”

Trump-Putin meeting: Trump issues threat to Russian leader
The thing Trump’s generals feared about him could now be arriving A big unknown with President Donald Trump’s move Monday to federalize the DC Metropolitan Police Department and deploy the National Guard in the nation’s capital is how much he wants a crackdown versus the appearance of one........ Trump’s mobilization of the military two months ago in Los Angeles seemed to fit the latter category. Maybe Trump just wants to look like he’s getting tough on crime in DC. ...........
it’s worth emphasizing that this is precisely the outcome that multiple top generals and military officials who served in Trump’s first term worried about – and warned about.
........ For years, they’ve cast Trump’s desire to dispatch the military on US soil as one of his most troubling tendencies – and even case-in-point evidence of his authoritarianism. ........... This issue was raised in one form or another by two Trump defense secretaries (Jim Mattis and Mark Esper), his top general (Mark Milley) and his chief of staff (John Kelly, also a retired general). All of them have cast this as a line that is not to be crossed and indicated they feared Trump would indeed cross it. Some even recalled multiple instances when Trump tried to do so or suggested it. .......... The flashpoint for many of their comments was the scene in June 2020 when federal law enforcement cleared Lafayette Square near the White Houe of racial-justice protesters. They did so right before Trump strolled through for a photo-op featuring both Milley and Esper. (Both later expressed regret for participating.) ....... Mattis responded with a blistering – and unusual, for him – statement that warned of what the scene portended. .......... “Militarizing our response, as we witnessed in Washington, DC, sets up a conflict — a false conflict — between the military and civilian society,” he said. “It erodes the moral ground that ensures a trusted bond between men and women in uniform and the society they are sworn to protect, and of which they themselves are a part.” ........ Mattis said the military should be used on US soil “only when requested to do so, on very rare occasions, by state governors.” .......(Notably, Trump’s deployments of the military this summer – in Los Angeles and DC – came without requests from the governor and mayor, respectively.) ........ Esper has described a scene in which Trump asked him and Milley why the protesters couldn’t simply be shot “in the legs or something.” And in his 2022 book, he said a large part of his job that summer was “making sure to blunt or redirect any efforts that could politicize the military, misuse the force, or undermine the nation’s security.” .............. “And I think this issue of using the military on — to go after — American citizens is one of those things I think is a very, very bad thing — even to say it for political purposes to get elected — I think it’s a very, very bad thing, let alone actually doing it,” Kelly told the New York Times last year.......... In the same interview, Kelly mentioned Trump’s penchant for this while saying he met the definition of a fascist. ........... That’s a description Milley, too, has applied to Trump. And at one point, he reportedly so feared Trump’s willingness to misuse the military that he worried Trump might launch a coup after the 2020 election. (Trump denied ever considering such a thing.) .......... In their 2021 book, “I Alone Can Fix it,” Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker reported that Milley believed Trump was stoking unrest with his false claims about voter fraud in possible hope of being able to call in the military. (Rucker is now senior vice president for editorial strategy and news at CNN.) ......... “This is a Reichstag moment,” Milley reportedly told aides, recalling the episode the Nazis used as a pretext to cripple the opposition and consolidate power.
