Brazil 2014

The Guardian: Brazil awarded 2014 World Cup: The Fifa president Sepp Blatter today confirmed that the 2014 World Cup will be staged in Brazil, who will host the tournament for the first time since 1950. .... Brazil were the only country bidding to host the finals .... five times world champions

This is big. To be able to host the World Cup. And Brazil deserves this. Lula's presidency has been a ray of hope to the world's poor. Lula has sent out a clear message that one of the poor can rise to the highest seats of power in a poor country, and do well as an elected leader.

For a country more known for soccer than any other, this has been a long time coming. I am surprised the last time Brazil
2014 FIFA World CupImage via Wikipediahosted the world cup was in 1950. Such a long gap? Perhaps the politics in the country was not right for the hosting of such a major event. Now Brazil has arrived.
